YRUU's in Washington

Several of our UU youth were founding members of the Interfaith Community of Environmentalist Youth (ICEY), which has been active in combating climate change through education, weatherization, and political advocacy.

Homelesness and Food Insecurity

The Church has many task forces that work with the issues of homelessness and food insecurity in our community. Our Homelessness, Habitat for Humanity, and Help Feed our Hungry Neighbors task forces tackle these issues head on.

Rainbow Rights

Our church is commited to being a welcoming congregation and to working for equal rights for all LGBTQ people in Bloomington and the wider world. Recently members worked to prevent HJR-3 (codifying marriage as between a man and a woman), and RFRA, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, becoming law.

Reproductive Rights

The Reproductive Rights Task Force works to promote reproductive justice for all women and men. It supports our local Planned Parenthood through food donations, and by staffing clinic escort services. It also supports the All-Options Pregnancy Resource Center.

Social Justice permeates all aspects of life of the UU Church of Bloomington and has since its inception. The church members have organized social action task forces to tackle some of the larger issues facing our community and world. A sampling can be found below (click on each section heading for more information). You can find a complete list of our task forces on our church website "Social Justice" page.

International Outreach

The International Outreach Task Force provides direct financial, material, and/or humanitarian support to specified international development projects with the aim of bettering lives and building human bridges between people of different cultures. In addition, members of the UUCB have worked with Habitat for Humanity in El Salvador.

Green Sanctuary

The UU Church of Bloomington is commited to being a green leader in our communtiy. Members of the Green Sanctuary Task Force work on local, state, and national levels to create a more environmentally friendly and sustainable world.
